Another Craft Show over

Well the Pioneer Christmas Craft Festival has come and gone. I want to thank all of my customers, new and returning, who helped to make it such a great success. A special thanks goes out to Ashley for watching the table on one day while I attended another craft show about an hour away in St George, and Mrs SudsMuffin tended to the store. I would also like to extend a big, BIG thank you to Maxine for the repeat invite again this year. The St George folks were just as wonderful as last year.

On another note, our new 6 packs of bath bombs were a huge hit, as well as the new Sweet Pea and Winter Whisper soaps. We look forward to seeing all you folks in our shop before Christmas.

Asian Fruit!

I made a double batch of soaps today. The first was of our ever-popular Satsuma Sunrise (pictured here) . I've been having a hard time keeping that one in stock. It rightfully flies off the shelf. The second was our of brand NEW Fuji Ginger Apple. This excellent two-colour soap has a bright apple overtone with a slightly spicy ginger backnote.

The first of my fall scents is ready for the shelf

I am pleased to re-introduce again this year (drum roll) Spiced Pumpkin! This one is just as amazing as it was last year. It's simply a super fantastically amazing fragrance. I just wanted to devour the soap bars as I was cutting them!

Soon to follow will be Allspice. This is a rich, delightful fragrance that's slightly reminiscent of apple crumb with a blend of of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Scrumptious!

Not Disappointed

I must say that I am thrilled with all but one of my new fragrances but I know that many of the ladies will love the one that I don't (it's a bit too sweet for my nose).

What a fun time!

This past Saturday, we had the opportunity to take part in a really great worthwhile cause. An organization called P.R.O. Kids was holding a massive scavenger hunt timed challenge all around the city. It was called the Harbour City Amazing Chase. Our store provided gift baskets to the winning team and we also served as one of the challenge sites. Our challenge, of course, revolved around scent. I put out four canisters, each containing a paper towel with several drops of essential oil. I chose scents that I thought would be relatively easy to recognize. I was wrong. Most of the teams hade no trouble identifing the Lemon, Peppermint or the Orange. The scent that caused the most trouble for these awesome folks was Lavender.

I'm a bad blogger!

Hi there all you folks in Blog Land. First of all, I want to apologize for not writing sooner. You know how things get, too much to do and not enough hours to do them in. I hope everyone is finally thawed out from our nasty winter. Spring was a welcome relief here.

So you may be asking what's new in the world of SudsMuffin. Well we have a brand new window to the storefront that is extremely striking. This, along with new window lettering, has given us a dramatic new visual impact from the street.

We have some exciting new products in the works, from delightful delicate Dry Oil Perfumes, aromatic Body Wash (in our scrumptious Satsuma scent), incredible Foaming Sugar Scrub (in our popular Sweet Spot scent). Ladies for you I have created a milk-based shaving soap with milk and pure Shea Butter; a wondrous treat for the legs.

At SudsMuffin, we are always trying to be innovative and bring the kinds of products our customers want. This is why we are constantly creating new things like the amazing
Maple Oatcake and Melonhead (watermelon) lotions. (You have got to come in to the shop to sample these goodies!)

For the men, our Shaving soap is based on old style formula. It has a creamy lather and is just the thing for beards of all kinds. It is also gentle on the skin, leaving you smooth and smelling great.

We are currently running a sale on the 120 ml Ginger Blossom lotion, regular $10, now on for $7.50. Come on in and see what's new today.

Bathe with us!

We've got some great new scents in store for warmer weather.
- First there's our mouth-watering tangerine scent Satsuma Sunrise, made in a soap and lotion.
- Lovely Fresh Lilac is back in a bar soap and perfume stick.
- White Peach makes her debut in votive candles and incense cones (complete with cute little burning cups).
- Watermelon Slices is available in Soap Cake Slices and fun little sun-shaped bath bombs called Sun Buddies. We're also working on little Bubble Buddies, which are fizzy AND bubbly.
- We also have a gorgeous new Maple Oat Cake soap and matching bath bombs that smell entirely too edible. The soap looks and smells just like fudge.

Come on in and sniff what's new. There's just too much to list!

Waiting for Spring!

Spring, oh Spring, where are you? Has anyone seen spring? I've heard it's here but I haven't seen it yet. Are you starting to feel this way too? I have just the solution for you: Satsuma Sunrise lotion.

My new lotion has a delightful citrus scent that is sure to pick your spirits up! Like all of the SudsMuffin lotions it is smooth, readily absorbed and comes in our new 30ml bottles, which are easy to carry to the beach (wishful thinking here), the office or just about town. That is just one of the great new scents in the shop. Come on by and experience our new fragrances for yourself.

By the way, spring really is here. I saw robins today!

Unique?

Unique: –adjective
1.existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics: a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.
2.having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3.limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to Australia.
4.limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities: Certain types of problems have unique solutions.
5.not typical; unusual: She has a very unique smile.
–noun
6.the embodiment of unique characteristics; the only specimen of a given kind: The unique is also the improbable.

In society today, there seems to be a tug of war between personal uniqueness and conformity. This is not a new phenomenon, in fact it has occurred in every era of man and is the driving source of change. Unique ideas and perspectives have a strange way of slowly evolving into the mainstream, effectively making them no longer unique.

I have seen this happen to many things. Take the lifestyle known as Goth. A few years ago they seemed to be this group of macabre looking folks who were getting the blame for every evil imaginable. As a society, we now know that Goths are just people trying to express their unique point of view. They want you to pay attention to them, to listen and to try to understand.
The Goth style of dress has ever so slowly crept into the mainstream so that it has become pervasive, influencing everything from hair styles to boots.

Not that any of these wonderful and exciting people are any less themselves. It is my thinking that they have been amalgamated into the bigger tapestry.

The one thing we try to do at SudsMuffin is stay unique, if not in all the world, at least for our neck of the woods. To this end we are always trying new fragrances, product lines and new presentation of product. Our goal is to offer things that you may not find anywhere else, to bring to you our customers our own distinct uniqueness.

My new most favourite YouTube vids!

Anyone who knows me knows I have a love for food. I truly enjoy trying new dishes and experimenting with combined tastes. There is something special to me about learning new cooking techniques. The plethora of palatable pleasure that abides in the panorama of the world's wonderful gastronomic delights is a source of delicious ecstasy for me! With this in mind, I would like to share with all my readers a little thing on YouTube called "Good Eats" with host and chef Alton Brown. There's also a Fan Page for the truly devoted. Now this is no ordinary cooking show. Alton takes the time to explain the science of food in a sort of culinary "cause and effect" way. The recipes are all varied and relatively easy. The episode I watched today taught me how to make one of my all time favorite desserts: Rice Pudding! (Part 1 / Part 2) I had only tried making this creamy aromatic piece of divinity one other time several years ago. The results were..... less than wonderful (I wouldn't feed it to rats). I was greatly discouraged with trying it again, until Alton showed his viewers how simple and easy the process really is. I made some for dessert tonight and it was absolutely scrumptious! Thanks Alton. The flavour was fresh and the texture was smooth and creamy! I am definitely making more today.

I encourage you to check out all the other great videos at "Good Eats" for an entertaining, foodie learning experience.

Life is like tomato soup

Tomato soup! Yay! Why such excitement for something so simple? Because sometimes simple is often best. Tomato soup seems so easy, so nonchalant but in actuality Tomato soup is anything but simple. Tomato soup is versatile. You can use it in casseroles, baking, slow cooking, as a base for more complicated soups, etc, etc...

So what does that have to do with life? Well life seems simple on the outside. You wake up, you eat, you work, you play, you eat, you sleep, so no and so on. But just stir it up a bit. Add another ingredient. Change how you use it then suddenly the flavor will change. It goes from simple to exciting!

This is the approach that I like to take with regards to my soap making. I mean after all, soap is soap, at least on the surface. But start adding raw silk, fine quality base oils, high quality fragrances and rich botanicals and the "flavor" changes. The simple becomes exotic, the bland becomes exciting!

So the next time you're offered tomato soup, remember it's what's on the inside that counts.

Get Incensed!

We are now offering incense cones in the shop in some familiar scents and in other wonderful new scents. Each cone burns for 20 to 25 minutes on average and comes with a small ceramic dish for holding or burning the incense in.

How do you burn incense? Place the incense in a heat proof container on a level surface away from drafts. Light the narrow end of the cone, allowing it to burn for a few seconds. Gently blow on the flame to encourage a glowing ember to form on the tip of the cone, then blow out the flame. The glowing ember will slower consume the incense all the way to the bottom of the dish, releasing a beautiful fragrant smoke. Sit back and watch the smoke dance around and about.

Currently available in
  • Ski Bunniez
  • Vanilla Sandalwood
  • Lemongrass & Sage
  • Spiced Pumpkin SoufflĂ©

Bathed in Chocolate

Hi my loyal bloggees and bloggettes. It's been a week or so since my last post. I have been very busy making product for the upcoming Valentines Day. This year's theme is Bathed in Chocolate. The best thing about our SudsMuffin Chocolate Cake products is not the delightfully edible scent, not the fizzing fun of a bath bomb or the soft luxury of a lotion, it's the fact our Chocolate Cake is completely calorie free and guilt free. We had our store window painted by Norm Jackson and we're sure you'll agree that it looks fantastic.

The Junior Achievers have picked up their first order of the year and seem to be off to a great start. I will be in the shop for most of today if anyone wants to come by for a visit. Have a great week!

An Exciting Day!!!

Well my awesome blog readers, I have just got to tell all of you about the most incredible day that Mrs SudsMuffin and I had today. Some of you may or may not be aware that some time ago we were approached by the E Commerce Center from the local University with a request to answer some questions for a case study. We had a couple more follow up question periods and then we were selected from hundreds (maybe more) to be one out of three of the featured case studies for a series of workshops they will be delivering to other businesses throughout the Maritime provinces. Today I had a nice lunch with the fine people from the ECC, then we all went back to my shop where a FILM CREW was waiting. Mrs SudsMuffin and I participated in an on camera interview. It was a great experience if not somewhat nerve wracking for me. Mrs SudsMuffin though was a real pro in front of the camera. Sure she's never done that before.
